Rocking out solo

I buy tickets to go to shows by myself all the time. I have no problem with it because I go to rock out to good music, which can be done solo. How often do I actually end up going alone? Very very rarely. I always end up with last minute additions: people who ask me what I'm up to and I end up extending an invite to or people who hear of what I'm doing and invite themselves. I'm totally stoked for the company, don't get me wrong, but sometimes I actually look forward to spending quality time with just me and the music, in my own little world.

I feel the same way about a lot of activities actually: watching movies, going for runs, going to dance parties, etc....all things that people tend to enjoy doing with another person or a group. However, I find that oftentimes the reason I'd prefer to roll solo is because I have a bad case of Good Hostess Syndrome. If I invite someone to do something, I then feel the obligation to ensure they have a good time. If they are having fun, then I'm happy. If they're not, then I feel like a failure. Example: you invite someone to check out a band they've never heard of. You are having a fantastic time, yet your friend hates the music. In that scenario, I would then feel totally bummed that my friend wasn't enjoying themselves or having just a mediocre time.

Anyway, I used to always buy a pair of tickets to every show I wanted to go to. I don't do that anymore. If someone happens to be stoked about the same show then rad, they buy their ticket and we go enjoy good music together :-)
